Thread: Sunrise at southern Germany

Hi CT-Flyers

here are some impressions from my recent sunrise flight at southern Germany.

Departure was at 05:49 loc from a soaring field. The route led us to to Friedrichshafen, Bodensee, the Alps and back.

When did you take off (5:49): before or after sunrise? Is it legal to fly LSA/VLA in Germany before the sunrise (night VFR)?

Sunrise was at 06:02 loc. In Germany the day is defined as SR-30 to SS+30. At the times, the sun is below the horizon, you need to have position lights mounted and switched on to be legal.

Some great pics, flying in the Alps is great when weather is good I just done a trip to Italy over alps going and coming back

If Germany is like the UK we can fly 1/2 hour before sunrise and 1/2 hour after sunset

Aham...here (in Romania) we have the "day" defined from exactly between sunrise and sunset.
