    Default Washington DC ADIZ

I made my first trip into the DC ADIZ a week ago. A first experience like that is always exciting. After doing it once, I won't be as anxious and reluctant to fly into the zone again.

    Here are the highlights:
    (1) File a DC ADIZ flight plan, which is a little different than a normal flight plan.
    (2) When in the air, but outside the ADIZ, call Potomac Approach to get a discrete transponder code.
    (3) Once I had the discrete transponder code, the one part of the experience that was a little bit of a downer was that Potomac Approach had me fly 360's for at least 15 minutes before they would let me enter. GA is obviously at the bottom on their priority list.
    (4) Inside the ADIZ, and if flying close to the Flight Restricted Zone (FRZ), watch out for the Class Bravo airspace that's all around you, especially for Andrews AFB.

Glad I did it. Sorry I waited so long.

Doesn't sound all that different from life around the DFW Class B, except for no flight plan and fewer 360s.
