    Default Trip to the Dakota's

Guys, I'd like some advice on a trip that I might take next week. My daughter is getting married Friday night and we took off the following week just to cool down from all the partying. We had planned to fly down to Florida and visit friends, but the storm stopped that. Now, I'm looking at possibly going up to Mt. Rushmore, the Badlands, and maybe Devil's Tower. I've been all over the Colorado, Wyoming area, but not into the Dakotas. Could anybody familiar with the area jump in and give me some ideas? (Airports, hotels, restaurants, etc that are close to each place). We'll probably come back through Taos for a night or two for some trout fishing.

Thanks, in advance, for your help.

    Default Dacota trip

Flew into Custer CO. (CUT) for the July 4 holiday. Great place, airport is untended after about 4 pm though. Custer is totally tourist oriented so hotels of all brands, usual run of eaterys.

Airport has all the rules for flights around MT. Rushmore and numbers to local car dealer for rental car. Hotels do not (by and large have shuttles to the airport).

Thanks for your help... Anybody else been around up there? I've never been within 500 miles of this area. Anything to look for like weather, mountains MOA's, etc.? The closest I've been to it was Oshkosh. Oh well, guess I'll just "wing it".

    1. Fly to Rapid City, SC. Go to "rushmoretours.com" and book their bus tour from Rapid City, SD, which includes two meals and a cowboy music show. Starts at the site of the film "Dancing with Wolves" and lasts all day and into the evening.

    2. Then fly to Cody, WY and stay two days wandering in the Buffalo Bill Museum (which is much much more than that). The tickets are for a day and a half. Buffalo Bill, Plains Indians, Western Art, firearms museum and more, more. There is also a daily rodeo in Cody.

    Good luck.

Just got back from Rapid City. Had a fantastic time, but left my camera in the plane. Will pick it up next Friday when I go back to the airport. If you haven't been to SD, I highly recommend it!!!!
