    Default Calculating Short Field Distances

In preparing for my checkride, the DPE told me she wants to know the distance for TO and LNDG over 50' obstacle. She told me to calculate this based on what info I have in the POH. The only thing I can find is 762' at STD, there doesn't seem to be any formula or charts to adjust for wind or altitude. I'm not sure how to answer this question correctly. I've heard things like double the distance. Any suggestions on how I should answer that question or am I missing something in the POH? Its a CTSW.

A similar problem exists for density altitude. There's no chart to work from in the the POH, so I'm going to take along a generic Koch chart and know how to use it.

James 253CT, Have a look at these CAA leaflets and I think you will find what you need. If you know the Standard performance of the CT from the POH then you can factor in the data from these leaflets.

Click on AEROPLANE PERFORMANCE for your data and afterwards take a look at STRIP SENSE

    Thanks Mac,
Expecially useful is the picture which alerts us to surprise surface wind paths at landing fields boardered by trees and buildings that channel it in directions other than indicated by the windsock.

Any surprise experiences would be interesting to hear about.
