Default Highligts from the new FAA LSA rules

These go into effect April 2nd

    1. 10K or 2K msl which ever is higher for terrain clearance.

    2. If you go from SLSA to an ELSA you can do your own maint. with the 16 hr class repairman course. (Please take the Rotax class, too)

    3. CFI's don't need 5 hrs. in type anymore.

    4. Changed the requirements to obtain a Light Sport license. A few changes here. You CFI's better brush up on these new rules they are different.

    5. Need sign offs for VH speeds at or below 87 knts or at or above. You would need a sign off to fly a
craft slower than 87 knts now.

    6. Change in Powered parachute and weight shift minimum altitudes.

    7. Change in Ultralight experience to use towards your Sport Pilot lic.

    8. Changes to Sport Pilot CFI's

    9. You must keep a record of all the SB's for your aircraft and pass them on at the time of sale. My suggestion is to log them in the back of your logbook and have someone sign them off. These will have another impact on your re-sale value. I believe this includes ELSA's.

Go back to my post with the new rule and read the paragraphs. Quite a few changes. (No, I'm not going to write them down here) Most are all good. Students may require a little more attention or specific training, but all good. The new rules if you read the whole paper are fairly easy to understand. There are main headings or paragraphs and then the rule discussion.

These are just some of the high lighted changes and a quick idea of what they contain. You need to read them for yourself for the full content.

Default Log book requirement removal was WITHDRAWN!

    Proposal 6

Remove the requirement for persons exercising sport pilot privileges and flight instructors with a sport pilot rating to carry their logbooks while in flight

EAA’s Position – EAA agreed with this change

FAA Decision – Withdrawn Since the proposal to certificate pilots and instructors with category and class privileges was not adopted, there remains a need to have pilots carry their logbooks to demonstrate that they are authorized to exercise category and class privileges.
