I second that! It had great news for me since I have to run 100LL most of the time. I've been running Sport 4 but changing at 25 hrs. Nice to know I can run for 50 now!

    Hi Andy,

    My .02 cents.
Even though the new Line manit. schedule says 50 hrs oil change for 100LL in the Rotax school with Eric Tucker they all agree it should be changed at 25 hrs. The reason is of course the leading. Even at 800 hrs. with 100LL the slipper clutch in the gearbox is pretty much gummed up and needs to be taken apart and cleaned. At 800 hrs with 100LL the slipper clutch has so much lead it isn't functioning correctly if at all. If you go to 50 hr. changes then faster leading and that isn't the only place the lead deposits. To pull a gearbox you have labor, then to send it in to have the slipper clutch pulled apart, a few new parts, cleaned and then remounting labor you are into it for about $800-$1000. If you qualify for the 2000 TBO then you can make the 1000 hr. gearbox inspection with 91 Oct. Rotax would like as many people as possible to get away from 100LL, but they know that it isn't possible for everyone. Anyone using 100LL should also be using a lead scavenger like Decalin all the time. Rotax does not want anyone to use TCP anymore. We have discussed in Rotax school too that 100 hr. oil changes are a little long and 50-75 hr changes are much better. The 100 hr. oil change for Rotax is nothing new, they just put in in the latest Line maint. manual in writing. 100 hr. plug changes were acceptable too, but using 100LL should be shorter and I'll stick with 75 hrs. for plugs. After seeing pictures of disassembled 912's from Rotax investigations I'll keep my hours on oil and plugs lower. Having to pull an engine apart can be cheap at $1000 and up to $6000. With a few extra plugs and a few extra oil changes coupled with good detailed maint. I hope to stave off any pre-mature costly maint. or off field landings. It's still a machine and I guess anything can happen, but why ask for grief.
