Default Rotax's Soft-Start Retro Fit kit

Rotax just released some information regarding a retrofit kit for the 9 series engines that replaces your two ignition modules with 2 new ones that have the soft start technology (rotax's version) incorporated into both modules so now instead of the timing advancing between 650-1000rpms it will now advance at approx. 2500rpms and there will be a delay of about 3-8 seconds from the time the ignition switch is released till the time the ignition retards. I have a price on it but I need to confirm that it is the Retail instead of the Service Centre price before I post it but its looking to be about the same price as buying one of the Non-retrofit modules for retail and Rotax is only offering the special price though December 15th so I would recommend getting your orders in ASAP. The kit includes two modules, and few pieces of hardware. KIT PN- 881-280 Module PN-966-727

    Hi Jeremy,

That would make them about $1140 each? It seems like the regular Soft Start system would be a little cheaper.

What is "soft start"? How is it different than what I already have? What does it do better? Why would I want to spend "$1140 each" to upgrade? What are you talking about?

Judging by the price that Rotax is charging the Service Centres the Kit should still be under $1000 dollars but don't quote me on it just yet. The parts have already been ordered so I should have a price for the kit with in the next 2 weeks. Apparently according to Rotax there unit is suppose to be better then the already available after market unit. Don't ask me why as It seems to be the same sort of technology, but I do know that the major difference is that the delay on the advance is built into both A&B boxes so you start on both systems rather then just one system like the Bully Hawk unit. I can tell you one thing, as soon as we get them in at CPS I will install it on my CT that night so I can test it out and let you guys know if its worth it or not. To be honest I have high hopes for it, I have been very happy with the difference in starting since I have added my Bully Hawk Unit and if the Rotax unit is even better then it seems worth it to me..

Jeremy this still seem's very expensive even though its a Rotax part at over $800 its about 3 times the price of the Conair unit http://www.ekmpowershop2.com/ekmps/s...-ssm-735-p.asp
which is approved by Rotax and does the same thing ! mabe your maintenance regime is stricter in the USA ..
I havent fitted one to mine as it starts on the button with no problem but know where i would buy one if i needed it :>)

    Default Soft Start

    Hi Mike,

Either the Soft Start module or the new Rotax ignition module with it built in are acceptable with Rotax.

    Hi Roger
Yes i know that both system's are approved by Rotax my point was why , being both approved , would you want to pay over $800 when you can get a unit that does the same thing for around $200 but then one is Rotax prices :>) if you wanted them on both ignition units i suppose you could fit 2 conair units it still would be half the price

    Default Soft Start

Rotax's stuff is so new I don't think many people know all the ins and outs yet.
I believe Rotax saw an opportunity to improve their own module and get a system that they can mount right from the factory on new engines or retro fit if you wanted. I sure they were thinking why let the Soft Start folks have all the money we can do it to. I'm with you, $200 looks better these days than $800 or $1600. No one has really said whether you should replace both modules and not just the one. Seems like you would want to update both A & B ignition modules. I haven't seen one or know of anyone with that purchased one yet.
