    Default Type of fuel pump?

    Hello CT friends

today I have a special question and I hope, there is someone out there who has a little more knowledge than I have.

I am searching for a second source for the mechanical fuel pump which is installed at the Rotax 912. My german Rotax representative wants 450 Euro (~670 USD) for a new pump and my fathers name is not Rockefeller

I am quite sure, the pump is a standard item and is available as a replacement part for a car.

After some investigation I found some hints at the pump itself. There is "AC" written at the top of the pump and at the sides there are numbers: 07.005582 and 992546. I cannot find who is the manufacturer of the pump and which is the manufacturers partno. Google couldnt help and so I hope, someone at this forum knows the originator of the pump.

    Thanks in advance

    Markus

    Hi Markus,

your dealer is probably offering you the part # 892 546 which includ the fuel lines ..and yes , this is expensive. Howevr, what you want is only the pump itself :# 892 542 ........that sell for ~ U$160.

Thanks all! I knew that I can count on you!

After further investigations it worked out, that the expensive part with the mounted hoses is the special item for CTs. Last time, I mounted a new engine (TBO reached), one of the hoses was too short in either way. This in mind, today I asked FlightDesign for a permit to mount the cheaper pump without hoses and use appropriate clamps.

In Germany one doesnt need a permit for this but the aircraft is used in a club and we do flight trainig as well. For me it is a good idea to ask FlightDesign before doing such a change on my own risk.

    I'm curious about the answer.

In the meantime I found the pump of the old VW Jetta and Golf cars looks very similar to the one Rotax uses.

    Have a look:

    Kind regards

CPS has the fuel pumps in stock under PN-892-546. Call me today and I can get it right out to you. Retail price is 511.46 USD, pumps without hoses are currently out of stock. The VW pump doesnt look compatible as the Mounting flange looks wider and the punger length and travel might be different. I would hate to hear of a CT going down so I would strongly recommend using the OEM pump. Ill leave a note on our pump in stock to reserve it for you for a few days just in case you decide you need it.

AC on engine parts historically has meant Albert Champion (the inventor of the spark plug or something like that). After his first company, Champion, was wrestled away from him, he started a competing firm, AC. This was purchased by General Motors and merged later with Delco. You are probably looking for some sort of Delco part number. Of course, AC might mean something else in Europe. I would suggest buying the OEM part since that can be a reason for denying a claim in the US insurance world.
