Delayed change in LSA rules
Hi All,
Just a little update. Talked to Edsel Ford off the FAA today about the up coming LSA rule changes that I was originally told was due out mid Dec. Seems that the rule changes are done and have been sitting on the Director's desk for a while and they are waiting for him to sign them. No one seems to know what the hold up is. So it could be days or weeks. When these rules are posted they may not have an immediate effective date. They could be effective tomorrow or April. We will have to look at them to see when each effective phase in date occurs. Here are where the rules will turn up first.

Does anyone know what these proposed rule changes include?
Does it by any chance include a gross weight increase to accomodate the Cessna "Fly swatter"???
If so great lobbying from big business!!!

Interesting observation.
I must admit, I had the same thought when I saw the hullabaloo about MOGAS sales being banned at publicly funded airports. Who would benefit from that rule? Who would be hurt by it?

I'm fairly confident there are no weight changes, but who knows I haven't seen the final print.

how about the wording on the exception to the 10,000' ceiling?

Hi Ed,
I do not know the exact wording on any of the rules. I do believe from what I have been told, nothing in writing, that it will be the 10K MSL or 2K AGL, but I don't know the exact words that are attached. I have been told there are some good changes coming for the LSA guys, but don't look for a lottery windfall.

any rumors of IFR yet Thanks Ron

Haven't heard a word about IFR.

I think the rule changes are those described in the Notice of Proposed Rule Making from last April. They had to be published in the Federal Register for a prescribed period of time, etc, followed by a public comment period. It is my understanding (not 100% sure) that they have to republish if they modify the rule, except in cases of emergency actions. As I recall, the 2k AGL provision was there, among others. No change in weight limit or IFR. The NPRM can be downloaded in Word Doc format from the FAA. Just Google "NPRM Sport Pilot" and you will see the link.
