Default RBS Service Bulletin - IMPORTANT

Roger: Please inform the group that a new safety directive #15 has been issued by FD USA that must be performed within the next 25 hours of flight. Everyone should go to FD USA and download the safety bulletin and check their aircraft serial number against the list on the bulletin. This SD affects about 100 CT’s in the USA, from some 06 models up until present.

Tomorrow, BRS is issuing a service bulletin also, so both these SD’s could be performed at the same time. All parts for these service bulletins will be available through FD USA , or a sub distributor like FD West. A local A&P’s can do both these SD’s with instructions.

I will also be sending off e-mails to all affected owners in my Distribution area.

    Thanks for your help.

The last rumor I heard was the FD was in line to get parts from BRS *after* 3000 Cirrus planes got their retrofit kits.

Wait a sec ... FD USA hasn't published a SB on the BRS, have they? SB #15 concerns the trim tab. Doesn't FD USA have to tell us that the SD needs to be complied with?
190 hours in the CT and have loved every one.

    Doug,

the sb is in the top of this thread.

    email from fdwest:

    ===================================

I have no parts, and no answers for this question, even though I have asked BRS many times for their time frame to send parts out.

Please direct your concerns and questions to Tom Peghiny. Maybe he has some news about this. Fstar@rcn.com

    Or the BRS company directly.

    John:
BRS issued the SB on the first of August so no the planes are not grounded. They are now ready to ship the parts in bulk to the distributors for distribution to the individual customers. TP

Because the Cirrus certification was based upon the parachute as an alternative to spin recovery the parachute is required equipment for all modes of flight. In the case of CTsw the parachute while now standard in the US models does not appear to be required by the design or certification. There are a lot of SLSAs without a parachute. Why then can't the parachute handle just be labeled inop without affecting the airworthiness of the plane? If I bought a 172 and had a parachute installed it would not be required to be operational to maintain airworthiness.

i was thinking the same thing art,

i have seen 05 ctsw's for sale without a brs. possible they originated overseas or in canada but i think it was optional early on.

BTW the benifit of a ct without the brs is the lower weight.
