    Default Weight and Balance confusion

I was look at the manual of the CTLS on the weight and balance area. But I saw a error or calculation on the empty mass area

(first line). It says that the ARM is 13.3 and the weight is 701 lb and that the moment result is 9318 lb. But that is incorrect,

701lb(W) x 13.3 (ARM) = 9323.3 not 9318(Moment). so which one is the correct one?

    Default W&B

    Hi Jose,

So long as you don't put a solo pilot less that 120lbs. in the plane or put lead in the tail you almost can't get a CT out of CG. We all worried like you in the beginning, but after playing with all the different types of scenarios, now we just fly and don't worry about. It isn't like the old station wagon type Cessnas, Pipers or other more CG sensitive aircraft. This is a very stable platform from which to fly. Throw the people in it and go.

    p.s.

By all means try all the CG scenarios and then you won't worry.

    jose,

my cg envelope is a 4 sided box but the newer one is a 5 sided shape with the most forard cg peaking at 1,000lbs and sliding aft at heaver and lighter weights.

i often fly outside of the new envelope but within the envelope determined by my POH. flying solo with full fuel and no luggage would be an example.

i'm thinking that this means that fd decided that the ctsw doesn't fly or land as well if the cg is forward while being heavier or lighter than 1,000lb.

Yes I use the 5 sided shape envelope because I am flying the CTLS. I just did some calculation If I will be a 200 pound

pilot (what I am not )with a 200 pound man on my right side and still inside the envelope. The problem will be

maybe on the luggage area. It all depend on the weight on the back.I still haven't do any calculation but I will do that

    later.

    Default CTLS W&B

There have been some excellent W&B calculators presented on this forum. I took the best of a few and put this one together for he CTLS. You can play with passenger weights, cargo weigths and fuel loads. This excel sheet is "locked" as far as the empty weights and moment arms. If you want to customize this spreadsheet for your individual aircraft, go to "tools", "protection" and click on "unprotect". This will unlock the cells and you can put in your own data. There is no envelope polygon produced with my program but the cells will turn "red" if you go past weight or envelope limits.

A W&B spreadsheet for the CTLS is not overly difficult to make. Here's one I did with Google Docs.

That's actually pretty nice NetJinja. Using Google lets you log in from any PC. I think I'll make one of those too. I have been using an IPOD application "CFI Tools" and just plugged in the data from the POH.
