    Default Accepting a hard landing

awelectric made a comment to my girfriend about hard landings that bears repeating. basically he said that sometimes pilots recognize that they are sinking too rapidly and are going to contact hard but they decide to accept it and just watch it happen.

thinking about this i guess the reason it happens is a throttle adjustment and or some additional stick and rudder input might be hard to come up with if you are already maxed out with the workload to that point. good reason too practice the go around and even a small throttle advancement so when you need it it is more intuitive and easier to come up with.

    landing incidents come from:

    failure to control sink rate
    failure to maintain alignment
    failure to maintain heading
    failure to maintain desireable airspeed
    contacting nose wheel
failure to control pitch attitude at balloon, bounce, and or go-around
failure to control at roll out, turn off, taxi

all of the above can be the result of "watching it happen"

Correct-O. You are in charge of the A/C. Not the aircraft in charge of the situation.

If in doubt, and still in the air, get out of Dodge. Go around and get back in charge.

    Default go arounds

I just got back from Eastern Oregon where I had to land on a 28 foot runway, 90 degree cross wind, runway up hill, trees and a BIG sink hole right in front of the runway. Made three go rounds and got it on the fourth. Going around is the answer - don't even hesitate.

Did the fuel stain show up in your pants before or after the go arounds????
