    Default 50 ft obstacle landing

to clear a 50 ft obstacle we suppose to use 15* Flap and maintain , stall speed x 1.3. My question is : The stall speed that I have to multiply by 1.3

is in clean configuration or stall speed with a 15* flaps? For me is the stall speed w/ the 15* flap up, but I just want o make sure.

    jose,

multiply the stall speed for the configuration you are using. if you are using 15 degrees then multiply the stall for 15 degrees by 1.3. in a ct the stall speeds from one flap setting to the next are pretty close. i use 55kts for 30 and 40 degrees and 60kts for 15 (that is a bit faster then 1.3 but the round numbers are easy to use)

it is likely that indicated speeds vary from ct to ct so the right speed for my ct might not be best for yours. i think the best way to find out is to practice stalls and note the indicated stall speed, that is the number that i would multiply by 1.3

to clear obstacles i would select maximum or near maximum flaps and a closed throttle because this would give me the steepest glide slope.

my ct slips pretty well with flaps and to clear an obstacle or if i am high i might add some forward slip to get even steeper without picking up speed.

In either the AOI or checklist it gives the speed for short field landings. You may need to pull the info from the close pattern drawing. 55 knots and 35 degree flaps works well. Hopefully you will have enough nose down trim for a 55 knot glide. I need to adjust mine a little more. Tom
