    Hi Guys,

    I am looking to replace a faulty fastener on the inspection door of the engine cowl. It looks like a spring loaded clasp that locates over a ball like base.

    I don't see anything like it on Spruce or any of the other sites I have visited so far. Any one know what breed it is or if they are repairable if not replaceable This one just does not stay clipped down.

    I am also looking to repair one of the Camloc seats but see that they seem to only be available in a 2 rivet style base plate where as those on the CT seem to have been trimmed and molded in to the engine bay flanges. Some of the sites sell a threaded (adjustable depth) base which seems like a pretty spot on way to go however they too are of the 2 rivet flange style base . Again any one had any experience with this aspect or any polite suggestions.

    There is lenghty thread on these "camloc" fasteners on page 2 of the Engine/Plane Maint. section. I think there is information there on how to replace them.

    Thanks guys,

    But I must not have explained myself clearly .

    I am not actually looking for the Camlocs but rather the chewed out recepatacle (i.e. the base that the bayonet of the camlock secures into).

    The other item I am trying to source is the funny little knurled (press stud like) lock that secures the oil inspection door in the upper engine cowl.

    I currently have a camloc receptacle which wore through and will not hold.
    I did not find the part number in the ct parts manual.
    I can not find any written instructions on how to replace them.

    What did you find out about replacing a Camloc Receptacle.

    Hi Guys,

    Skygazer,
    The page in the Spruce catalog has both sides of the camlocs. Both the male and female. You could epoxy it in place and it may hold forever, I'm not really sure. You can however pop rivet them in place. You use a flush rivet head and slightly countersink the hole. The flush rivet will work very well and not interfere with the cowl and it is how these fasteners are usually secured. It is a very easy job to preform.
    The oil door locking knob part number is c9997541A from FD (page 31 in the parts catalog).

    I think the epoxy would hold up better in this application over the Gorilla glue. I'm thinking more of the heat up under the cowl that may affect its bond. After you removed the old fastener and carbon fiber overlay that holds it in place, do the same thing with a little epoxy and fine weave fiberglass cloth. You don't need a lot of epoxy as the cloth is the strength.
