Default Hi Everyone !!! I am New to Flight Designs !!!

    Hi Everybody,

My name is Mike, I have been in aviation for a long time, fly everything from Heavy Jets to Ultralights, but am new to Flight Designs, so any advice about these planes you guys can give me will be greatly appreciated. But given Roger Lee's and other reports of this plane I have no doubt that I will love it ! I am very glad to find a forum for Flight Designs. I am located in Miami, Florida and will have my plane soon. So my first question is, what is this plane like to fly ? Any advice about flying the CT2K, or things I need to watch out for ? Does it handle much like the Cessna 150 ?

    Thanks,

    Mike

    no

quick and responsive, runs out of energy real kwik on landings, energy management on landings is the thing to watch out for.

    Default Ct2k

Did you say you are getting a CT2K? I have one and at 5000 feet elev. it is too much wing. At sea level you will have a hard time landing it. It will want to fly all the way to Cuba before you get to the end of the runway. Just kidding. Love mine but they are a challenge to land. The newer ones with shorter wings and a bigger and longer tail have better control. Great visability, great fuel economy, seats need some work for confort, just love the plane. As far as flying like a Cessna, I flew a lot in a 182 and it landed very easy compared to these lighter more effecient planes. I cannot make my 2K stall, it just mushes along decending at 500 fpm. CT (Ed) is a good reference for landing details and Roger Lee knows everything about the planes. (just kidding Roger, he was wrong once, I think) And there are lot's of great pilots out there, RD of Salmon, Idaho lands in the wilds of Idaho all the time. Review some of his videos. You will love the plane, we all do. Spud

I have been reading Roger Lee's posts for years on other forums, and he is one of the best ! He always does his homework and his posts are always dead on accurate. When he talked about how much he liked the Flight Design on the phone a couple years ago, it made an impression on me that never went away, so here I am

The plane I currently fly retains all the energy of a tumbleweed, and glides like a grand piano thrown out of a window, 1000 FPM sink at 55 MPH , A plane that will float forever, and has a good glide ratio is just what the doctor ordered !

    Hi Mike,

Welcome! The CT's are great planes. I have flown over 40 types of light singles and though the CT is one of the more difficult ones to land well, it is by far the most fun! If you want to try one out let me know, I rent and give dual instruction in my CTSW down here in Bisbee, AZ. Would be happy to help you out.
