Default I was deffered to Oklahoma for my SPORT PILOT STUDENT CARD

I went to my local FSDO today and because I had put that I had a conviction in the past (2004), I was deferred. I called the FAA and spoke to the sport pilot people and they told me the FSDO is wrong but there is nothing I can do. How long will I have to wait. I am so pissed off. I have spent thousands of dollars and am now ready to solo. Now who know if will ever happen...

Any advice on how I can expedite this.PLEASE

You might want to try talking with AOPA's legal division, if you don't belong, join.

Roger, I tried. I spoke an Airman Compiance Officer who told me the FDSO was wrong but she wouldn't call them. I did get a Jay Trevis from the FAA Light Sport Airman Divsion who called me back 3 times and called the FDSO. Awesome guy but he told me they seemed pretty intent on deferring me for no good reason. He said he will call me back with more info tomorrow but did say this could take months. Problem is FDSO is an admistratvie office, they don't make decisions and for some odd reason they felt they were making a decsison here. Its clear cut on the FAA Website. What's your interpretation of this.

    Default FAA

You need to ask that guy tomorrow who you can talk to so the FAA will call your FSDO and call the FSDO back and tell him the FAA says he's wrong to please check it out for himself. Give your FSDO the number that you are calling and tell him to call the FAA office. Tell him if he doesn't it could cost you hundreds of dollars and tons of time. It will only cost him a phone call. That's the only way this thing is going to happen with some efficiency.

Thats why I don't get it. I gave him the name and # of Robin Thurman 866-878-2498, she is the Technical Comliance Officer for Airman Certification after I confirmed with her they were wong. I am not sure if he called but I know for sure Jay Trevis from FAA did call them. The FSDO promised to call me back and never did. This is SO FRUSTRATING!!! These guys just do whatever they want. The rules don't apply to them. They don't have to justify their actions and obviously can't be bullied by Oklahoma. It just sucks. I'd like to sue this guy for discrimination and the cost of hrs extra I will have to pay for instruction when it does finally get issued. This just isn't fair and something should be able to be done about it. Now I am faced with the delima of do I continue my training with the hopes this will come through or just put it on hold and save my money till I know more... I got 20 hrs into the CTSW already.. This HURTS!

Default AOPA and EAA can't help!

I called both AOPA and EAA and either can't help unless I was actually denied and not deferred. This is the pitts. I don't know if I should stop training. I can't even get a straight answer how long this process will take.

I know the horse is out of the barn, but this points up to the issue of instructor responsibility. Many instructors will not go past an hour or two of familiarization without the student getting any licenses or medicals required to solo. Some will even require that you pass the knowledge test first. I think this is a good policy and provides time for issues like this to be sorted out.

    Default Its not over yet...

I got a call from the Fargo FSDO yesterday from the Head Cheese (not sure what translates to) Nick. He talked to the FAA and told me he agreed with me, HOWEVER, the person in his office, who initally accepted my applicaton and was going to defer (still might), was out of the office for the day. I was told that if his associate could not provide written documentation to defer, he would issue my card. I should know something today.
Glad I fought for this one whichever way it may turn out. The initial guy wanted to just blow me off and sent it to Oklahoma City for them to figure out. Well, I got ahold of the right people in Oklahoma and they were all in agreement that I should not be deffered. Just gotta get past this one idiot who's trying cover his butt in the presence of ignorance.

    Thx,
    James
