Default Sold my Plane today, Looking for LSA...

    Hi all,

Sold my Diamond this weekend and looking into LSA's. I'm downsizing yet again. I started with a Grumman Tiger, had the Grumman Cougar twin and then the little DA20. Still have my medical, just looking for something less expensive for my wife and I to punch holes in the sky.

The CTLS has caught my eye several times in the past few years. I gave it a good look while at AOPA expo in Hartford last year, but haven't flown one as yet. Look forwqard to learning more about the Flight Design aircraft.

    Welcome c1

Your heading in the right direction looking at a CT! They are a great airplane and are pretty cheap to own and fly. Of course no hobby is really cheap! You need to go get a flight in one to really appreciate it. You cant beat the comfort, performance and economy oh yeah and the view. Id be happy to help but I'm a few thousand miles away. If you get down to Arizona though look us up.

I was in Az in May. Was going to look at a Sky Arrow, but it was sold 2 days earlier. I am going to contact the distributor in CT which is close to me and who they recommend. I hope to visit Tampa in November for the Expo/Summit. Thanks!

    Welcome!

If you liked the DA20, I think you'll like the CT. I think the DA20 has better flying qualities (control feel, harmonization) and better visibility, but the CT is cheaper to operate and performs better on short fields.

Can't believe I didn't see this earlier. Welcome to the forum! I had a Grumman Tiger first, sold for a Diamond DA40/G1000,then finally on to a 182/G1000. Had some medical issues and decided I didn't want to go that route any more and now I have a CTLS. It is a great plane. Very economical relatively. Visibility is close to the Diamond, but not quite. This is offset by the shade the upper wing offers in the summer. Sporty handling like the Tiger and a great useful load for an LSA. The best thing I can say is, get educated and look at apples to apples when comparing all of these planes. There are a lot of claims out there being made that aren't completely straight and level, if you know what I mean.

Oh well, once again, welcome aboard

One of the best ways to evaluate an LSA is to check for the LAMA label, and then read the reviews on Dan Johnson's website.

If an LSA manufacturer does not have a LAMA label, it means that it did not voluntarily submit to an independent audit to determine if it conformed to the ASTM standards required for all LSA. Since the ASTM standards are an honor system, in which the FAA assumes the proper documentation has been filed, having an independent audit is an additional check on compliance. Although it is not as stringent as an independent engineering check, it is better than just assuming.

The CTLS has the LAMA label, as do about a dozen other LSA manufacturers, out of a field of nearly 100, most of whom do not have the LAMA certification.

In addition to the LAMA audit, flight reviews by others, such as Dan Johnson, whose website is linked on the ctfyler home page, can give additional insight into how well it might fit into your operational plans.

Thanks All, my wife and I enjoyed AOPA Expo and I was able to get a test flight in both the CTLS & *****. Even though I like the idea of the folding wings on the *****, I'm hooked on the CTLS. Not sure if it was a rigging thing as both A/C were new, but the CTLS's controls were just smoother. So was the fit and finnish IMO. We are going to poke around some more and look to make a decision sometime this spring. I'd still like to get my hands on a Sky Arrow, but it seems they are having financial problems at the moment.
