New member in upstate NY
Hi Everyone: I live in Ithaca, NY and am learning to fly a CT at our local East Hill Flying Club. We have two excellent instructors on the CT, Mike Thomas and David St. George, CFI, who was the 2008 instructor of the year in our region.
I had never flown before a couple months ago--never had the urge. But watching a couple TV segments on the Terrafugia Transition, the "flying car" in development by a team of MIT grads, really sparked my interest. The Terrafugia, of which a prototype exists and has done short test flights, will be a LSA.
Anyhow, it's been a thrill learning to fly. I have 17+ hours now and feel I've developed some decent skills, though landing remains a challenge [and literally something that keeps me up at night!] We have a 7,000 x 150 ft. runway at Ithaca, so that when we fly to some local small strips they look like bandaids!
Anyhow, I've been enjoying reading the threads here, the personal stories and recommendations are an inspiration!

With the local winds you have there in glider heaven, once you master the CT in your neighborhood the rest of the world is a peice of cake! WF

I'm fortunate to have as my main instructor a CFI who began as a glider pilot over at Harris Hill and still is very active with gliding. He definitely understands the slippery nature of the CT!
