Default New CTLS owner and met opticsguy!

I picked up my new CTLS in Ohio this past week. I am still trying to get home (KMEV - Minden, NV) but WX in OK doesn't want to work out for me. All I have been able to fill up with was 100LL the entire trip so far. I was told that if I change the oil every 25 hours or so I should be okay for a while....this trip is going to push it .

I also met opticsguy and he landed directly before me. I was sick and tired of telling the controllers what type of aircraft I was so it was nice to hear him on the same frequency for a while (while i was in st louis bravo)...then ironically land at the same airport after him. So far its been an interesting trip but wish for better WX. opticsguys gave me some good pointers before we both got on our way (especially about 15' flaps and the 100LL questions).

    opticsguy: enjoy your flight home?

    Hi buzeyga,

Since you live in the Minden area why did you go to Ohio for your LS?

    Buz

Was home by 4:30 PM. Had to stop in PRX to top off fuel. 20+ headwind from St. Louis on at every altituede. I saw on the radar that OK was bisected by a line of storms. Did you make it to CO or stop in OK somewhere?

I have a blister on my hand today from stick-flying in the low altitude bumps. At one point over TX I had an 800 FPM vertical speed upwards with the stick level. A roller coaster without wheels. I keep it under 105 indicated in crap like that. My wife finished a novel during this leg (she should be the pilot not me).

I was originally going to purchase in Minden but found one without the 6K add and was able to get seller to go a little bit lower as well. Will not name him but was happy with the deal

    Hi buzeyga,

Glad it worked out. Happy to have another CT flyer cruising the US. Now you have to come to the Page, Az. Fly-In in Oct. 16-19 and meet everyone. Guaranteed to be fun. was a good time for those who attended last year not to mention one of the best scenic flight vacations in the US. Look on the forum under "Trips" for more info.

We had to stop in OK for the night. I wish I only had a 20kt headwind but we were seeing 30 - 35 at 6500. Didn't get that bad of a roller coaster ride as you...i only was in about 300' / m or so up/down and we stuck pretty close to the storm (within 10 - 15 nm or so) with only mild precip. Unfortunatly I am stuck in OK again tonight because of 300 - 700' cover.

The guy I was with was a little upset with me for not wanting to continue last night or launch this morning and skud run it out of the layer. He decided to hitch hike back to oklahoma city to catch a flight back west.... not sure how far it is from WWR but has to be a good 150 to 200 miles.... and it was raining. Sucks to be him.

    Hi buzeyga,

There are going to be a lot of people at Page this tear, maybe more than any single gathering. We will all have to use some Avgas, but for the little that you will use it's just not a big deal, especially if you have been using 91 at your home base. Quite a few Rotax engines operate on a 100% diet of Avgas and don't have major issues. Just use a semi synthetic oil if you use avgas more than 30% of the time. Full synthetic will not suspend the lead coming out of the oil.
If you miss this you will curse yourself later.

I was givin' ya' a hard time about the MOGAS thing . The LS I am in has only had a 100LL diet so far but is using some kind of shell oil developed for the rotax. Need to look at the bottles the seller gave to me upon purchase. If my schedule allows count me in. Will check out the other thread.

    buzeyga,

Welcome to CT ownership at last. I've chatted with you a few times regarding the CT on the AOPA forum, for the last year and a half. Welcome to the board as well. Enjoy your new plane, and I hope to meet you in Page in October. It wasa great trip last year, and I'm looking forward to going again.
