    Default Cockpit floor surface

There is no comfortable foot position for the "Pilot not-in-control". The slick painted surface provides no friction and leg tension is required to keep the feet off the rudder pedals.

Solutions would include some kind of rough surface, possibly carpet in that area, corrugated surface, fold up ramp, etc.

I doubt that no-skid tape would stick due to the roughness of the surface. Perhaps some carpet with slightly sticky rubber backing?

    Default Flooring

    Hi All,
Non-skid tape will stick. I have seen a couple of Ct's now with both carpet and non-skid tape. Both seem to do the job of protecting the floor. If you used commercial grade Velcro which is very tough and plastic then you could use some thin carpet and then it would be removable to wash or replace when worn. Commercial grade Velcro holds like you have never seen.

Sweet. I'll give it a try.

I also want to put some red 1/2" tape around the edge of and "NO STEP" in the center of the cubbyhole cover.

I flew one CT over here ia Aus where the owner had screwed a rubber mould across the floor on the pax side. he put one slighly back from the pedals and another one as a heel stop at the pedals on both pilot and pax sides.

The rubber mould was about half an inch high so it was good as it served as a heel stop for when you are using the pedals. The same goes for the pax side where there was also the 2nd for resting your heels on stopping their feet sliding forwards to the pedals.

I was meaning to to do it with my old CT but never got around to it before I sold it but I will be doing it to my new one when it arrives in about 6 weeks or so - YIPPEE

Excellent idea! Wouldn't complain about it on the left side too - would be good to have a place to stretch the feet for a moment.

    Default Non skid tape

Thanks for all the ideas. I took the simplest one first. I got one yard of 2 inch wide non skid tape and put three rows across the floor separated about 2 inches apart. I cut it so that it is to the right and left of the door and did not put any on the door itself as there is no need to have feet there anyway.

The (very critical) wife-type passenger judged the problem solved so I don't care to argue with that.

The other solutions sound fine, too.

I also tried a number of things for this, including a sawed off step stool that would allow my wife to put her feet there and not mess with the rudder pedals. But, then I got the carpet kit and she stopped complaining! I have also figured out that in cruise she doesn't really have to be that careful about the rudder pedals anyway, since it takes some force to disturb mine from neutral. - WF

Mine was put in by a subcontractor of John Dunham in Carson City, NV who used to be a West Coast distributor but has since closed the business. I can't find a receipt anywhere but I think it was 400-$550. I have also seem them with carpet kits on the ramp at Salinas, back when they had some CTs in their flight school. I think that place went bust, too. So, I guess the thing to do is call FD in Connecticut and see if they can fix you up with someone. I will take a photo or two of the carpet and put it up late next week. It really enhances the look of the cabin. - WF
