    Default Gear Box Service

I understand that I'll need to remove my gear box and send it to Sebring Aviation for inspection and service at my next 100-hour service interval, which will be 800 hours. Any idea how much this service may cost - and how long it will take to get it back?

    Hi Wlfpckrs,

Yours doesn't qualify for the 2000 extension? Add ship to back and forth and time there about two weeks. That price can vary a little depending on shop rates. A guess would be around $700-$900. That's strictly a guess. The shims and bellville washers should get replaced. If you have been running 100LL then the clutch needs to come apart for cleaning and that will be more. They have done enough to give you an estimate on the phone. Like I said mine is just a guess.

On the 2000 extension, are you talking about the engine TBO? My mechanic at Chesapeake Aviation said that, at 800 hours, the gear box needs to be serviced.

If your engine qualifies for the 2,000 hour TBO extension, then the gearbox service time is extended to 1,000 hours, rather than the current 800.

If your engine qualifies for the new 2000 hr TBO then the 800 hr gearbox was extended to 1000 hr.
