    Exclamation Wing Maint reminder

    Hi All,

Don't let your mechanic forget this inspection of the wing, it is mandatory.

It is on page 36 in the Nov. 20, 2008 revision of the FD maint manual.
This is the wing removal inspection.

    Quote
" Check each 600 hrs. or at the next 100 hr. inspection after two years, which ever comes first".
While they are off change your fuel site tubes. This inspection usually needs two people, 2 six ft. ladders for support under each wing. It takes approximately 2-2.5 hours give or take.

I don't get the wing inpection. Reading the maintance manual, it seems that about the only inspection is waggling the wing which you obviously do with it on the plane. The rest of it is all about taking the wing off and putting it back on. Sure, I can replace the sight tubes more easily with the wing off, but what am I missing? - WF

    Hi 207WF,

The wing removal is for checking the bulkheads on the wing and fuselage, check nut tightness on the fuel bulkhead, good time to replace site tubes (they harden and discolor over time) check the insert hardware between the fuselage and wing, check for stress cracks or any debonding on the exposed surfaces, inspect bellcranks and pivot points and lube these areas. There is actually a lot to look at. It doesn't take long, but needs to be done. Just like the Rotax engine has a set point for it's 25 hr or 100 hr inspections after new it is to find a problem before it finds "you" while under stress in the air and has a catastrophic failure. It takes about 1.5 hrs. and that includes changing out the tubes. It is supposed to be the first 100 hrs after the second annual. Then it isn't for until each 600 hrs after that.It isn't that hard of an inspection. You will need two 6' ladders and pad the tops of them. A second pair of hands comes in helpful, too.

Roger, some clarification for my feeble mind. I will be doing my first wing inspection this month because this inspection has not been done and my CTSW has less than 600 hours but it is now at the "first 100 hours after 2 years" point. Am I correct in saying that the "first 100 hours after 2 years or 600 hours, whichever comes first" will no longer be in effect and I will be doing my wing inspections at each 600 hour interval after completing this inspection?

    Hi Dick,

The wing inspection is due by the first 100 hrs. after the second annual. Then it is due then every 600 hours there after. If you did yours at 300 hours then it would be due again at 900 hours.
