Aluminum Cracks
I have cracks in the aluminum in several places now: Both carb drip trays and in the shrouding that directs air into the heater housing that surrounds the muffler. Nothing serious, but I was wondering if there is an alternative to removing the parts and having them welded at a specialty shop. Is there some sort of liquid solder or some such goop where we could stop drill the cracks and spread the good over them without removing the parts? - WF

cracking
On the air intake you could stop drill the crack, rough it up with course sandpaper and use some JB Weld or stop drill and sand both sides and use some epoxy and fiberglass cloth. Either would work. I don't think the air intake would be very important so the JB Weld should be sufficient.
The carb drip trays seem to always crack the way they come from the factory with no support at the screw attachment point. Replace them, $22 each from FD, then use the large metal and rubber washer set up like I had posted in some pictures before. I have never had one crack on any CT that we have done this mod. to. It is an approved mod. Vibration and a small support point is the crack cause.
