Default Spark Plug problem - NGK DCPR8E

The manual says to use this plug, but we had a problem today in trying to replace the plugs. The spark plug terminals would not unscrew. I've come to find out that there is one version of this plug where the terminal cannot be unscrewed - and another where the terminal can be unscrewed/removed.

Have any of you run into this?

No. I've found some that were stubborn but have not run accross any that would not unscrew.

I have to ask where are you getting your plugs from??
If your ordering them thru a auto parts store then chances are they are going to give you the solid caped plugs the style used on the 2-Cycle ROTAX engines. NGK makes the DCPR8E in both styles and you must specify, order them thru a ROTAX Certified Service Centre<--(yes thats how you spell it) and they will send you the right plugs, look at the top of the plug and you should be able to tell right away if there the solid caps or the screw off. We had a customer that had come into CPS last week and demanded we buy him a new spark plug boot because he was dumb enough to try and force the cap on the solid caped plugs, the boots are around $50 each so obviously he wasn't very happy about having to by one. We sell a box of 10 for $29.90 cents so I cant imagine you would save much trying to buy them locally, obviously the guy had never had any formal Rotax training..

That or you are using a screw off cap and its just being stubborn, they usually don't take much force, in some cases hand tight..

    Default Plugs

There is a version of this plug that will not unscrew. I bought some once without looking. It depends on where you get them more than anything. Places like CPS, Aircraft Spruce and most motorcycle shops have the right ones.
