Thread: Brake line bleeding

Hi All,

Here is an idea for bleeding your brake lines. I was using a manual pump. You can use an oil can pump if you want with a hose on it. You need to flush/bleed the brakes from the bottom up to do a good job.
Here is a picture of something I was playing with and it works great and it only cost $8.95 from Ace Hardware. It started life as an insecticide or weed sprayer. It is now my pressurized container for bleeding brake lines. It works really well and it doesn't cost $90. I just unscrewed the front nozzle, enlarged the hole a little and slipped on some tubing. It will hold 2 qts., pump it up and pull the trigger and the brake lines bleed quick and the air goes with it.

I made one like that last summer when I was doing brakes. Mine is a little different. It had a brass tip that I drilled out and soldered a 3/16" tube in. I also made a vacuum jar to hook to the reservoir. It really helps when bleeding the brakes. Tom

For the reservoir I just take some tubing about 10" long. Tape it in a small water bottle then put the tube over the reservoir snugly and let the bottle hang. The overflow from the bleeding just goes in the bottle and I don't have to even look at it. I flush each side until I get a little in my over flow bottle. Then a pump the brakes about 10 times to look for air or move any stubborn bubbles around then I bleed the brakes one more time. This always works for me.
