    Default Ignition Key

I need to get another ignition key made up but, nobody seems to have the blanks in town. I could go back to the the national distributor but, heard that a key blank would cost about $36.00 per blank. Any ideas about where to get these at a more reasonable price. Thanks, Bill.....AKA....Big Apple, CTSW 292CT.

I believe there is an old post on this subject. As I recall, the post said that a certain type of motorcycle key worked and even gave the part number. You could maybe get a key made at a motorcycle dealer.

    Good luck

I've had an ignition key made using a Taylor F79E blank. Most locksmith shops carry a good selection of blanks.

    Default Finding an ignition key.

So far, I've had no success with finding someone who has key blanks for the ignition on my CTSW. A long standing Tucson locksmith with a bizillion blanks couldn't find one and he really tried by painstakingly sifting through his inventory. I'm planning a trip from Tucson to the East coast in late June and would really like to have a spare set of keys with me. I've tried the recently submitted forum solutions but to no avail. Thanks everyone for trying and I know that someone on the list will have a workable solution to this issue.............Bill.

I have not had to get a key made, but saved this info from a long-ago post. I cannot vouch that these work.

"the ignition key can be cut from an Ilco HYD4 blank and the door key from an Ilco YH27 blank."
    Hope this helps.

I checked this one out at the locksmith shop but, it wasn't the one. However, he had a Taylor F79E (German Ford) and that matched pretty well so got it cut. Will try it out on Monday. Thanks to all who helped. I will let you know how this key works. Best regards to all..........Apples!

The Taylor F79E key blank worked just fine. The locksmith here in Tucson has three more blanks. He makes up the keys for about $4.00 each. Let me know if you need one made up.................Apples.

I started a thread on this, probably early in 2007. Here you go...

For the ignition key, go to a locksmith and ask for an Ilco HYD4 blank, which is actually a motorcycle key.

For the door lock key, ask for an Ilco YH27 blank.

A good locksmith should be able to cut and file this for you.

As I recall, someone tried getting one of these cut without much success. However, I've done it a couple times with a local locksmith, and they've worked fine. (My locksmith is better than your locksmith.) I recommend keeping two of the door key with you when you are flying, since it is small and relatively thin. We had one break off in the door in the past.

What a pain. The local 'super' key-maker shop here in Milpitis had none of these blanks. I found out online that the HYD4 crosses to an ILC-X94 blank (for old harley motorcycles) and the YH27 crosses to X68 (Yamaha). Both can be found on ebay, funnily enough so I ordered a few and will take them to a local hardware store.
