After draining the battery with the 100W, I used the 50W for a couple of years. At a trade show this week I got a sample of a 4.5W 20-degree LED lamp from a lighting supply company. I have never seen this particular model in a store, yet.
I flew last night and the light was ample for taxiing and landing. The tower said they could see it from over 2 miles away (in a city environment with lots of light pollution).
This is a great combination because of the added visibility in daytime without the problems of pulling 4-8 amps while idling on approach.
Please note: if you plan to fly to an unlit strip on a moonless night, you will want to stick with the 50W or 100W.
