Hmmm 33 gallons... That gets me through take off and the first hour in the 6XT. Then the real fun to the wallet comes from burning through most of the 102 gallons of gas over the next 3 hours (leaving a reserve). So that makes it a mere 350+ clams to fill the tank on both ends of the trip. And you wonder why I am looking at the CT's in this day and times! Yeah you get there faster in the 6, but also a fair degree poorer..... and really I have better things to spend my money on like food and shelter and.... I reality the XT is a pure joy to fly but it has just gotten too expensive for the type of flying that I seem to be doing and want to be doing these days. I had thought when I bought it that I would have it as a primary and then just rent something smaller for the short CC's or to just practice. Real life: I actually need something smaller and more economic for everyday and I can rent something bigger if I need it. Funny how the world gives you the lesson AFTER you have gone out with some guys and laid down 289K. Live and learn!

It looks like the open back space and small openning in bulkhead in the rear of the CTSW tail would make it had for a flashlight to jam back there. I was staring at it yesterday. If you want to try out your golf bag, you can see if it fits over at my CT in KPAO. My seatbelt loops are velco so the seat pulls out in 5 seconds. I can fit a 12" diameter, 5' long telescope box back there

    Chanik,

There is a CTSW at KPAO?!?!? I had no idea. Of course there are only about 200 tie downs out there.... I would love to see the plane golf bag or not. I have a 6XT in a hanger at KPAO so I am there lots. Maybe we can get in contact and compare schedules. What a treat it would be to see the plane in person. I too am an amateur astronomer as is my CFI Rob French. We have taken his scope out to Blue Canyon in the sierras for some great looking. Thanks for the offer I hope to hear from you.

By the way, how do you like the plane?

    David,

My CTSW is domiciled at KRHV. If you and Kurt (Chanik) have difficulty in scheduling, I'd be happy to show you my CT. I've been hoping to get better weather, as I have another person that is interested in a CT also, and we are trying to find time and decent weather to get a flight in. The forecast for tomorrow is looking promising.

MY wife likes a suitcase with wheels so I bought her the biggest one that will fit throught the baggage bay doors. Is is 10' x 15" x 15." My soft-sided folding suit bag of standard size fits in and can stand up next to the velcro barrier at the back of the baggage bay, resting on top of the ELT, when lightly packed. I carry these, two large tupperware tubs full of airplane stuff, two 5 empty gal plastic cans in the way back behind the velro screen, a couple of duffel bags and more on trips. We can pack for a long trip with business and play clothing, even include a backpacking tent, sleeping bags and air mattresses. 100 lbs of baggage goes a long way. Plus, you can put stuff under the seats. - WF

Even a small golf bag won't even come close to fitting in the luggage compartment without removing the velcro barrier.

Wow it must be quite a treat to see you guys keep pulling stuff and pulling stuff out of the little plane when fully packed! I am assuming that the 5 gallon cans are for MoGas. Is it OK to mix MoGas and 100LL in the same tank? I can totally see why you would do it with the price differential and all. Thanks for the tips.

the rotax has one insidious enemy named "lead" change the oil, keep the rpm up and avoid lead and the rotax will last thousands of hours.

    Charlie,

Sorry this is wayyyyyy of topic but:

What would be the oil change interval on this fine craft? We are real old ladies about the 6 and change the oil every 50 hours. I believe that I read that the Rotax is both air cooled and water cooled? Does that mean that there is a shared cooling system for the oil and the engine? I ask because the plane seems to fly at high revs and it seems that it would generate lots of heat in a small space possibly shortening the life of the oil. I was surprised to hear about the water cooling.
