...but based upon your knowledge and experience, what is the fastest, most efficient, and lowest cost (up front and operating) two-place airplane? Would an RV be on the short list?

I think the RV's would make the list, one of my students recently finished his RV-7 from a standard kit and an 0-320 for around $50,000. The Sonex is pretty cheap. As far as fast and efficient though I think the Rutan canards are up there. Of course they don't meet the LSA rules, and they eat up some runway, but if you lean them out you can get alot of miles per gallon.

I think the Long EZ's are always up there also. They seem to always be winning the contest that Oshkosh puts on each year.

The Thorpe T-18 would have to be way up there. Speed of an RV at 1/3 to 1/2 the price to purchase. If you are building it wil take longer because it is plans built, but there are flying airplanes out there that can be baught. there is one based here that goes to fly ins with me at CT speeds his fuel bun is about the same as the CT. When he pushes the throttle in he is 170 mph @ about 9 gph. Tom
