    Default Bi Annual

When operating as a light sport pilot, am I required to have a bi-annual flight review?

    Ron,

Yes, USA. I don't know what other countries require but in the USA a flight review is required every 24 months carried out in the manner prescribed in the requlations.

The other currency requirements for carrying passengers apply as well. 3 takeoffs and landings every 90 days. Sometimes I can get them all done in one approach!

To a full stop? On one approach? Cool.

Very interesting. There seem to be minor variations which are country dependent. In South Africa, the PPL test is redone every two years and valid up to (I Think) 5 500kg AUW, but the LSA (Or National Pilots License) has a 3-year currency. The LSA is also valid up to 600kg AUW , which is good for CT owners who fly with a PAX, full tanks and a BRS. The CT is also approved for PPL training...but not night rating for some bureaucratic committee reason.
What are the requirements in North America [excluding Mexico, Puerto Rico, Haiti etc ] for night flying. Can you do this on an LSA license?

LSA is a designation that goes with the airplane. To fly a LSA the minimum pilot requirement is to have a Sport Pilot License (SPL). With a SPL, you cannot fly at night. However, anyone with a Private Pilot License or higher, who also is maintaining a current medical, can fly an LSA at night provided it is equiped for night flight.

For example, my CT has the lighting package and can be flown at night. I have a Commercial Pilot License but no longer keep a current medical. I, therefore, cannot fly my plane at night.

Ron - forgot to mention the above is for the USA. I don't think Canada recognizes the SPL nor LSA.
