Default European version and US version of LS

OK, here's something that I cannot track down and I figured if anyone would know it would be this group.

Is there a difference between the European version of the LS and the US version. I ask because there are quite a few for sale in places like Italy, San Marino, etc. The prices are very good even with the exchange rate.

I have a friend, who is also my plane broker, that has very good connections to Europe. He sells GA planes from here over there. He always seems to have a container or two headed across the pond so I am sure that they could sneak a little LS into a corner on the return trip. The shipping I hear is surprisingly low. We just sold the Archer to a guy in Australia and I was told that it cost less to ship it than to fly it there. (I mean, that is, if you could fly it there, which you couldn't because it is an Archer and the ocean is sooooooo big...)

I am just looking for the best price I could get for comparable airplanes, a buck is a buck. But I just know that there is some major, fatal flaw in this reasoning so that is why I am throwing it out here for comment.

    Hi David,

Make sure if one comes in from out of the country you can get it registered here in the US. Call the FAA and check.

    Roger L.,

I figured this would be the rub. I am not sure that it is even a good idea, probably is not. I am pretty sure this falls under the 'free lunch' category or the 'To good to be true' one. The prices are probably low either because there is no market over there or even though there is a good market here, you can't get them past the Feds. I think that I will just go domestic and forget about it. I will ask my friend John about though, he is the best source I know when dealing with this stuff.

I was going to buy a helicopter out of Mexico once and the feds would not let me re-register it here in the states.

You can talk to Ken over at Lone Mountain, I think he has done a few imports so he might know the process, or at least someone that does. Im not sure what the difference between the Euro LS and te US version, but I'll ask the gentleman I'm picking up next week. He is from Austria and recently purchased an LS there to replace his SW.

Hello David. I think that is not a good Idea. Even if the Ctls you see for you in Europe is build almost following the ASTM , the Faa will give you a very hard time to registered in Usa. But if you still think its a good Idea, make sure its one with at least the confort package, dynon and that doest have the kaspar prop wich is variable pitch. Also check it has the BRS 1350hs and not the 1050hs wich is only for 450kg.

    Hope this helps.

Quite a few European models are more stripped down due to the 450 kg. weight limit.

    Everyone,

Thank you, fabulous information as always. Roger L. and Angel, I was finally able to get some information and you were both right in that the equipment is different types and model numbers and the level of equipment is less in most cases. IN talking to my friend the plane broker there is also a difference in the way that damage is reported in Europe and he has experienced this in some of the planes that he has imported. Best to look around US soil for one it seems.

We have one here in Michigan just like it as well. 2007 model with night package and leather high back seats. Comes with all factory warranties, etc.
