    Default Training in Houston Heat

My freind in Houston Tx. wants to learn to fly a ct. How warm can you guys stand it in the cockpit? Yesterday I did a 2 hr flight in the midddle of the day here in Wisconsin, 90 degrees and 90 % humidity. 75 dg at 3500ft and it was ok in the cockpit. He would probably train in the early morns and late eves anyway, but I know it can stay at 100 well into the evening down there and lets not even talk about Houstons humidity. I am going to guess that the thermals in miday down there are a lot of fun on a sunny day.

We fly in South Florida all summer long in the CT without getting hot. You can taxi with the doors open & the cabin is well vented in flight. Up to 100° F we do not get hot.

I taxi with the doors open all the time in the summer. Just make sure the stuff in your door map pockets is firmly embedded.

ditto on those comments... Phoenix.... 100+ May-Sept... 110+ much of the summer. Early mornings and late a/noons are not bad. Mid-day thermals make for a bumpy ride. Pop those doors open when taxiing and you're good. Of course the the monster flight schools are flying all-day, every-day.

    But it's a dry heat...

We havent resorted to both doors open during taxi, but yeah one sure helps. I suppose he will be aclimated to the conditions somewhat as apposed to a midwesterner visisting. His lessons will be morns and eves only, so I guess it should work out well. Also he will be looking for a possible partner in a new LS in south Houston area, Sugarland or maybey HBY?

Fly early, be on the ground by noon to 1p to avoid heat and wicked thermals.

    It's better after Labor Day.

I have two pieces of smoked plastic and suction cups which I stick to the overhead windows. It helps to keep the heat down in the middle of the day.

I have the tinted plastic sunshades from FD that clip to the bar that the compass is attached to. They shade the sun coming in the top part of the windscreen and that seems to help, too. WF

Static-cling or suction-cup sunshades a must... overhead for sure... 'careful to not spoil vision if used elsewhere... sportys and other pilot stores have... I got some big ones at dollar store - cut to size.
