    Default CTLS Exhaust Pipe

Has anyone had any problems with cracks in their exhaust pipes on their CT's ?

My 4 month, 135 hour CTLS has had the exhaust pipe crack 3 times in the last 4 months.

I'm wondering if anyone else has had similar issues.......

    Default Cracked pipes

It is not just a CT issue. Rotax has had cracked pipes over the years. Make sure when it is fixed that when all connected that it is not under stress on any of the pipes. Some installations have the pipes held under continuous stress and this will lead to a vibration/stress crack. Many people have had Rotax exhaust pipes crack on many different planes.

I had a pipe wear through at the ball end at about 50 hours. Nothing since, although it has not been another 50 hours yet.

    Default Exhaust

The exhaust knuckles are supposed to have a coat of antisieze on them and that should help with wear.

    Default Exhaust Problems

When I first got my CTLS I had a battery that burned out through the side of the battery case. Battery was replaced and i had problems again, this time Lockwood replaced the battery, determined it was an exhast leak that generated sufficient heat to burn through the battery case. The exxhaust was repaired and the battery was wrappen in a metalic material and I have had no problems since. I do know that Lockwood did send full particulars to Flight Design and Rotax concerning this incident.

Ken Nolde, 150 hours and hoping the gusty cross winds will abate enough so I can fly tomorrow.

Header wrap also stops this exhaust leak issue if you develope one.
