Mandatory Flight Design/Dynon Software Update
Morning All: Nancy and I just returned form Sun-N-Fun and a trip to Sebring for warrantee work. SNF was interesting as always, but I thought the venders did not send their first teams in several instances, for example: Dynon. Which oddly enough is the subject of this query.
I had the Dynon 5.0 update on my "get done" list for the Sebring visit. I spoke to John Hurst and he advised me not to get the upgrade (5.0) because Flight Design was going to have a 5.1 update soon that would be mandatory. Okay, I did not get the update, but neither John nor Phil Lockwood, or maintenance personal could tell me when the update would be available. Anyone have any insights?
Now back to the Dynon display at SNF, I did have a number of questions on the new screens, auto-pilot, and updates and when they would be available. Not a single question that I had was answered and i was advised to go to the Dynon website--which, inturn, is not all that informative--so there I am.
On another subject or two, I am to be ejected from my shade hander soon (construction) and I would plug The cover I bought from Flight Design when I purchased N840KN. Also, Bruce's Covers makes a travel cover that is light and works great when you are on the road; they also make wing covers that similarly do a great job for those of us who do not have access to a hanger. Lastly, my crew What's-er-Face and I still plan on attending the CT fly-in at McCall, Idaho.
See ya, Ken and Nancy Nolde, N840KN, 150+ hours, luv it!

Here's what was posted on the Dynon factory forum on April 8:
"There isn't currently a firm release date, but it is still in active development and headed toward beta very soon. We've been taking the extra time to polish some of the AP features that are due in 5.1, and we've also been doing some other polishing and other neat secret feature development that we're not telling you about yet."

Beta Testing
Ken,
I'm on the beta test team for Dynon. I'm sure the new upgrade isn't to far away.
The Dynon stuff is great but they've never seemed to have really knowable folks at the shows that I've attended anyhow. Sometimes the owner is around and he's pretty interesting. I've always found if you call'em they've been very helpful however.

Location of nine pin D connector to update the HS34
The CTLS with the SL30 radio has the HS34 added to the Dynon 100/120. When you update the firmware in any of them you must update all three.
The D9 connector for the D100 and D120 are under the center tray between the seats. Does anyone know where the D9 is for the HS34?
There is a D9 connector labeled HS34 under the tray also but it is connected to something. Is that the one? If so, what do you do...unplug it, do the update and plug it back in????
Any other advice on update this avionics suite?
Thanks,
Russ

HS34
Hi Russ,
That may be the one you need. To check it, unplug it and try it on your computer. If it recognizes the HS34 then you have your answer. Other than that I'm not sure.

D9
Russ,
You might give John a call at Sebring. He's usually up on this stuff really well. I also would assume Roger L is right. Un-Plug and plug into your PC and see if the software will recognize it.

Updating the HS34 version of the CTLS Dynon
The replies from both Rogers, above, were correct, as was my guess.
The HS34 input 9 pin connector for software upgrades is in the tunnel behind the throttles. It is connected to something (probably the SL30 radio). The wire to the 9 pin connector is labeled "HS34". To upgrade the HS34 software, disconnect it, do the upgrade and then connect it again.
Dynon suggests doing a software upgrade in this order: 120, 100, HS34. If there is an error in upgrading the 100, take it out and remove the batteries for a short time then reinstall and try again.
