FDUSA is beginning a news email for CT owners, just a heads up. I really wanted to note that that the CT Flyin in July is, I think, known only to this forum. Is there some reason that it has not been mentioned in other sources? My ulterior motive is to say that I have convinced What's-er-Name (Nancy, my wife) that the fly in is a good deal and we should do it. She really likes the airplane and our flying around, however (yes the big however) she idealy likes short hops once aday. She would take off at 11am, fly a max of three hours, and quit for the day.
Welllll, we know that a long and, yes a complex cross country requires planning and lots of flexibiity. Actually, she knows that, but doesn't particularly like it. For example, I have planned for us to leave the last part of june (a few days after we return from a family cruise0 to: Ft. Worth, friends, (I bipass Louisiana and my son's family on the grounds we can see them any old time), then to Chickasha, Ok to visit the guy I flew the better part of 200 missions in VN, then to Colorado Springs, Co to visit friends and ride the Durango RR, and see Mesa Verde. Next, to NDak to see Mt. Rushmore and surrounding area; then to Boise to visit friends, then McCall, then to see my sister in Coeur d Alene (note that the flyin is right on the way to visit my sister). Then to Glacier Ntl Park to drive around and hike a bit, then to Seattle to visit an old (certainly older than I am) Squadron Commander and friend. Off next to Medford, Or to see an ill friend, (including fly-bys at Crater lake and Mt Shasta (natualyy at a discrete distance, turbulence you know) then stopping in Attwater, Co (old Castle AB where I went to B-52 Tng in 1962, then to SanDiegs family, then to Tuscon, Ryan to see Roger Lee and get a 200 hour inspection while passing through. Then home via a familiar path, Ft. Stockton, San Antonio, Lousania, and Pensacola.
Now I ask you, isn't tha a model of directness, visition places she has never seen before, visiting old friends in the space of a month or so! This notwithstanding the added benefits of viewing the startling beauty of this country from our own airplane! So, we will be at mcCall and the only real problem is weather and, of course, a suitably varied wardrobe for Nancy. (I will not have too much, so you might see me in the same stuff rather frequently.)
I have reviewed Scotty Imersons mountain flying DVD and several others and I have decided that I will pass on the back county fields.
Love, Ken and Nancy Nolde
141 hours (if I can figure out how to send a picture, I have one of my grandson and me going out to defy gravity)
