Thread: Changing Sight tubes on wing roots

Before I go and drain the fuel tanks and try to change the fuel sight tubes are there any tricks to getting the tiny clams off of the tubes- They look to be rather an awkward item to change out . Or is it more of a case of needing to remove the wings to acces them ? - Seems a little extreme though?

I haven't tried with the wings on the airplane, but I think it would be real hard to do. After the fuel is drained it doesn't take long to have the wings ready to come off. The biggest problem is having a couple extra people around to help. Go ahead and do the 2 year wing inspection while you are at it. Tom

I agree, by the time you drain the tanks the wing removal is half done. Then changing the sight tubes is a piece of cake,

Reminder, to stay legal according to the maintenance manual this task needs to be done by a LSRM or an A+P
