We should check after each flight and make sure no fuel has come out of the vents onto the wing. It should be wiped off after each flight. If it sits in the sun or in the hanger stained for a while it is almost impossible sometimes to get the stain out. I use Oil Eater to remove most stains and oily dirt. It is a water based degreaser from Costco. Then wipe the Oil Eater off with a wet plain water rag. Sometimes a light rubbing compound will remove more of the stain and sometimes nothing will and it's just going to stay.
If you are only flying within a couple hundred miles then I only fill up to 15 gal. on each side. If you fill to 17 on each side and the wings aren't perfectly level or the plane sits in a hot environment then fuel may come from the vents. Even if I'm flying a very long distance I never put more than 16.5 gals.
you can also try COMPOSICLEAN Multi Purpose Alkaline cleaner. it works very fine for me ...

a few of the most forward looking CT owners purchased CTs painted the same color as a fuel stain![]()
no flies on us![]()
Try orange cleaner. I forget the exact brand, but it has worked for me. WF
The Flight Design maintenance manual states that any stains on the wing require an inspection to determine the cause. Before attempting to remove the stains, it is imperative to first determine the cause. A wing inspection may be required.Originally Posted by astark5551
If the wing is structurally sound, with no leaks occuring within the fuel tank or at the fuel filler, and it is determined to be solely due to overflow of the fuel via the vent, then I have been told that FD USA recommends the use of Blue Magic cleaner. Call Dana at FD USA for their recommendations on the specific Blue Magic product.
The cause is overfilling the tanks and either parking the plane on uneven ground or flying it out of balance no big mystery and quite a comon occurance ..wouldnt have the problem with a switchable fuel tank tap![]()

Yesterday is history. Tommorrow is a mystery. And today? Today is a gift that's why they call it the present.
Aero Glaze dry wash is used a lot by commercial operations, and might work very well for you. Here is a link from Aircraft Spruce:Originally Posted by micromike
