I had a landing gear failure on 245CT. My landing was not perfect, but not that bad either. The right wheel broke off just above the weld. With the wheel off, the stub of the gear dug into the runway and turned the aircraft right, off of the runway onto the grass. Once on the grass the stub dug in and flipped the aircraft over onto its back. My instructor and I were taken to the hospital and released within an hour or so with only minor cuts.
The landing gear looks to be only about an inch in diameter and made from very thin aluminum tubing. The break was right next to the weld. The weld could have been made at too high a temperature taking strength out of the tubing. Considering the difference in gear size from my old Cessna 120, I just don't see that this thin tubing could ever be strong enough to be safe.
Has anyone else had this type of gear failure on a CTSW?
