at 50', with the runway made you could always dead stick the landing. the trick here is to round out low and not balloon.

the crab to slip transition can be done very low, you can even go from crab to touchdown without slipping if done at the last moment. if you google crosswind landings you can find a lot of videos of airliners crabbing right till touchdown. good to remember that the tricycle configuration helps turns you to be aligned with the runway on contact when crabbing, just the opposite of conventional gear.

a good way to remember how to manage fuel is "the fuel follows the ball"

interesting note, when slipping to manage fuel you will have fuel moving outboard on one side and the balance you see is not correct., recenter the ball to see where your balance is.

if you are holding course it is true the fuel will flow towards the low wing. better thinking is that fuel flows to the trailing or aft wing and that aft wing could be the high wing, even in a slight (slipping) turn.

    Default CT Mishaps

    Hi All

Before you critisis Mr Hagedorn for his lack of fuel .... in the UK we only have a motw of 450kg. the CT takes up 268kg and Mr Average 85kg .... add a passenger at 85kg .....add another 20kg for travel stuff....and you're insurance is invalid and you still haven't added fuel yet !

Drop the travel stuff and you have 12kg ..... or just about 17 lt........ 1 hour flying with no reserve.

Come on EASA .......we want a 600kg LSA now !!

Oh ....and by the way .....if he'd tried the 16th from the back tees he'd have had 520 yds to the pin !!

    @ John Hughes:

Anyone who flies any 912 powered three axis microlight with two up within the law is an idiot, no question. Or else they can't add

Realistic range for me, no wind: 4.5 gph at 110-112 knots, 5200 rpm, 8500-9500 feet. I leave two hours in the tanks reserve, in recognition of the fuel imbalance issue, plus two unusable gallons. So I can burn 23 gallons cruising for 5.1 hours and cover 566 nautical miles. I have never had "breakfast in New York, lunch in Chicago, dinner in Denver." - WF

How heavy can the the Brits fly their CTs? Does regulation force them to fly light, and this just a consequence of that adhering to that policy, creeping towards risk in order to comply?

An engineer suggested to me that the CT could be safe to about 1500lbs. true?

We can fly up to Mauw of 450 kilo's , 475 kilo's with a ballistic chute so we have to legaly trade of fuel for passenger/luggage weight although as John say's probably if truth be told most dont

Yesterday is history. Tommorrow is a mystery. And today? Today is a gift that's why they call it the present.

Not sure how he justified the trees over the fairway! From reading of posts by local memebers of his flying field, this guy had no business flying an airplane... I read the report, even people at his own club disagree the real facts were ever brought forward. I will find the link and post. The beauty of Dynon EFIS is the exact calculation fuel burn and never having to wonder how much you got left. I wouldn't even take off with less than 15 gal on board, and that is just for a 1.5 hour local leisure flight + plus I like having a little extra weight and will top it off, especially when xwinds are present.
