Seems to me we are flying better.
It seems like in the early years, many of us were tracking accidents and discussing their causes. Most were obviously preventable pilot error. Most of my "less than perfect" landings were in 2005 and I do not think this forum even existed.
It 2006, everybody just getting their CTs and the new instructors were still developing the feel and talent to land a "light plane". I for one, was still landing using too much flaps. It was the way I was taught. Many new owners happily flew off thinking "this will be easy". In fact, the landings are easy, once "you get it". But, that takes some hours to develop the feel.
Now, there are many more CTs out there by a huge factor! Many thousands of flying hours are being logged and thousands of safe landing are becoming routine. No question, the flight instructors are better experienced in light aircraft.
I guess there is no way we can estimate the total hobbs time on all the CTs, and estimate the huge number of landing the CT fleet has completed, but we sure can conclude an awful lot of us are having a whole lot of fun in the sky, and we must be safer than on, say, street bikes?

i might be safer in my ct then on my street bike (1200cc sportster) but then again i ride like i have a death wish and fly like i want to live
we haven't got any safer, more a matter of not turning pilots loose in a ct based mostly on their experience in heavier aircraft.
we now know it isn't a joke, there often is transition training required

I must say I do feel much safer in the CT than on my street bike (BMW R1200GS), just so much extra room up there in the sky. Just haveing to much fun trying to decide if I'm going to fly, ride the GS or my bicycle, and there are days that I'll do all three in the same day. Ride my GS to the airport, fly, ride in the mountains for a while, come home and hop on my bike. It's exhausting (I'm not any younger) but it sure makes for a fun day. If I realized how old I actully was I would most likely limit myself to one activity a day, but that's the joy of never growing up.
See ya all in Page.
