A special equipped Flight Design CTLS from UL GmbH www.ul-gmbh.de Germany is used for measuring flights of the technical university duesseldorf department of volcanology . Especially sulfur and particles concentration has been measured in steps of 1.000 ft up to 14.000 ft. The target was to qualify the calculated location and density of the ash cloud with the reality. The Flight Design CTLS, in this case equipped with oxygen, qualifies especially by its climb performance and its comparable high ceiling for a non turbine / turbo aircraft with low risk for damages by the volcano ash together with high speed, space and range. As the CTLS is a perfect survey aircrafts Flight Design believes that more and more of its aircrafts will be used for this kind of purpose.
