Default Bendix/King Skymap lllC upgrade cost

A Bendix/king Skymap lllC & Tracker was factory fitted at end 2006 on my CTSW with the (then) areonautical data. I want to upgrade the aeronautical database (Jeppeson?) with the Atlantic maps for Southern Africa. Cost quoted of new data card with freight and taxes is almost the price of a new Garmin! there is no download possible, only card? Any suggestions on different/more reasonably priced software?
    Thanks/Ron

    Ron,
I have the same set up in my CT and last year was all over Europe in 9 different countries and it is so intuitive to use I wouldn't consider anything else yet for a while. However, this year I sent the data card off to England for the the latest update and all it cost was £79 Stg. I've replaced the memory back-up battery with a special one from a supplier for £7 Stg but whatever you do make sure the new one is soldered across the terminals before cutting out the old one or else you'll lose all your personal waypoints! don't ask me how I know! The system is good as new without all the hassle of reprogramming my brain.

Many thanks for the info. Do you perhaps have the contact detail/e-mail for the company to whom you sent off your data card? Maybe I've just been overquoted by the local dealers? Regards.

    Hi Ron,
    Check out the following details…..

The company I sent the card back to was ….

    Skyforce Avionics Ltd.
    5 The Old Granary,
    Boxgrove,
    West Sussex PO18 OES
    England
    Tel 0044 1243 783763

And the memory back-up battery was from …..
The Small Battery Company...............AA Lithium Thionyl Chloride (ER14505-AX) battery with Axial Wires . Equivalent to Tadiran TL-2100, Tadiran TL-4903, Tadiran TL-5104, Saft LS-14500, Sonnenschein SL-360/S etc.
And the product number is ER14505-AX AA with axial wires Lithium Thionyl Chloride 3.6V
Hope that helps and stay with the Bendix/King, it’s a great unit. By the way, they were both very quick with their turnaround.
