    Default Dynon's SkyView?

I was reading through the aero news network and noticed that Dynon has announced the availability of Sky View. Is this something that will come with the new CT's or can it be retrofittable? Just wondering. Also, with my 696, it seems that it would be a little redundant, but it would be nice to put terrain on one screen and normal map on the other. Their autopilot looks pretty good, on paper, with altitude capture, being able to program directly on the screen and the ability to capture approaches. I miss that in my TruTrak. Is that going to be available with the CT also?

    Thanks,

    John

Anybody heard anything more about this? I've been very interested in this as an upgrade, but things seem pretty slow...

Dynon said they would give 50% credit when trading up from their other models. It is not 100% clear what the 50% relates to, but I think it is 50% off the current list for the D100/120 toward the new equipment. Not sure if that also applies to the the HS34 or other behind-the-panel components too.

Should be able to get the whole story at the LSA Expo in Sebring next week.

Dynon is shipping Skyview. I think it's a good choice for VFR users who want a glass panel (not my preference for VFR, but you pays your money and you makes your choice). A single 7" screen is certainly big enough for a PFD and engine data and the 10" is plenty big enough for PFD, engine data and moving map (map software isn't ready supposedly). You can display any or all three of the screens, and there is a really excellent configuration system for the engine data pages. There are some good youtube videos showing the system. Adding the autopilot would be fairly easy. I would guess that a 7" display would fit on either the pilots' or copilots' panel as well as the center panel. A complete setup, dual displays, GPS, mapping software (not yet available) and a 2-axis autopilot ought to be less than $10k.

I know it is expensive, but can a Garmin G1000 be put in a new CTLS when ordering new from the factory?

A G1000? No. You could retrofit the G3X, which has much of the functionality at 1/4 the price. Or you could get the Skyview for 1/5 the price

Just talked to "someone in the know" about retrofitting the Skyview system into an already existing CTLS. I was really interested in doing this. He recommended not doing it since the cost would be nearly $20K by the time it was finished. It requires a second pitot in the left wing, dual AHARS (sp), a new mushroom console and especially, a completely new wiring harness thoughout. He said that this would put the cost point to the area of just buying a new plane and selling your existing one. Just thought you all would like to know. John

    John,

I don't think this is necessarily the case. I'm not sure who you talked to but the most studied person would be John Hurst at Sebring.

I'm doing it to my CTSW and here's my case: First you only need to replace the mushroom if you go with the 10 inch screens. After seeing the the seven and the ten I'm going with the seven. I was concerned at first the seven might be to small but not after seeing them side by side in person. I don't believe you have to do two pitots unless you want redundancy. I'm not going IFR so I don't care about that. I can use my existing Pitot. The wiring looks to be much simpler this go around - it's much more advanced and a better thought out system I think. And last, there's a trade in thru the end of the year for your old equipment. I'm thinking I'll be at least half of your twenty if not a little better.
