    Default Dynon firmware update 5.1

    Hello All,
I've put in the 5.1 update of 5/22/09 in D100 and HS34. No problems.
It did fix my HS34 problem where the Nav Src would forget that I had both
SL30 and GPS396 inputs, and would only display the HSI dg. I used to
power-cycle the EFIS breaker to reboot. This has not been a problem since
    the update and 4hrs flying.
The other bug I had, displaying the main + alt VOR on the HSI remains fixed.
One must enable Monitor of standby VOR on SL30 to get the two needles working.
Previously, main would always display on both VOR needles.

I had to build an HS34 update fixture, M and F 25 pin connectors to bring power to
HS34 (and open the DSAB), and a 9 pin for the serial port. This was needed
because my installation had no connector for the HS34 updates.
I've put the D100 serial plug to the front panel, so now I can do updates
and dump the flight history records w/o opening the panel.

    Default Dynon 5.1.1 is current

After I did my install, Dynon produced version 5.1.1, on 6/4/09.
This corrects an attitude problem (they say), which I did not have with 5.1.0

    Default Dynon Software Update

Afternoon All: I note the Dynon update is available, but what do I do with it! I do not have the slightest idea of how or where the update should go, I note CCCC indicated he updated several modules, HS-34 and the D-100. I assume that the D-120 is not included. ai have looked around the instruments and I cannot see any place in the front to plug a 232 coupling or whatever to the instrument.

I guess this means that I will have to have a shop do the update, any advice?

    Thanks, Ken Nolde, N840KN

    Default Dynon updates

    Hi Ken,

I would be happy to answer your questions, but that might be a long email. If you give me a call there are several questions you need to ask and get answered over and above what's on your post.

    Default Dynon Update process

Hello, sorry to be so terse about the update process. My engineer friends at work also say I tend to be terse!
    I have a laptop with a USB to Serial adapter to 9 pin F. I have a D100 and an HS34, but no D120.

In the plane, the D100 harness had a 9 pin F socket, which I brought through the panel.
The HS34 had no connector for update, so I built a fixture with 25 pin Male, 25 pin Female, and 9pin F.
The male to female jumper brings power and ground through. The 9 pin serial is connected to
the 25 pin Female. I need to open up the panel, and interpose this fixture in the HS34 cable
to do updates. This wiring is detailed in the Dynon installation manuals.

If you are not familiar with electronic hardware, it is probably best to have a mechanic or
electronics repair station do the updates. Do be sure to make a backup of the old firmware,
as prompted. That backup is the only way to roll back if you don't like the new version.

Dynon says all instruments networked together need to be at same version. At least
the D100 and HS34 require separate serial interfaces to update. I think servos
can be updated indirectly from a D100. I don't know about D120 at all.
