    Default 696 mounting...

Still trying to figure out how to get "my new love (696)" mounted in my middle panel....

Curios if this idea would work and what your thoughts might be. I have the typical Dynon cockpit with the AP, Altitude and Speed Indicator underneath the Dynon panel on the pilot side. Don't know if the "steam gauge" Altitude Indicator is required or not. I have three other Altitude indicators besides that one (the Dynon, panel mounted GPS and hand held GPS. So my thought was: could I take out the "steam gauge" Altitude Indicator and replace it with a Becker Transponder (not positive the Altitude Indicator and the Becker are the same size - hoping they are)? If that would work I could remove my Garmin Transponder from the middle panel leaving enough room for the 696, Garmin radio, and "heater pulls".

I know that Garmin transponder is great and probably an improvement over the Becker but up here in the Pacific Northwest we have mostly class G airspace and the transponder remains mostly on 1200!

    Any thoughts?

How about relocating the circuit breakers to the leftmost side of the left panel, put the Garmin tpdr where the breakers used to be, and then move the radio down and rotate the heater knobs to left vertical?

In my 2005 CTsw the ciruit breakers are on the right side of the center ("stem of the mushroom") panel. Just off the left knee of the co-pilot/passenger. I believe this was the standard configuration back then. Not an ideal location (I cannot see the breakers without unbuckling my seatbelt), but in a pinch you may want to consider relocating your curcuit breakers there to free some panel space.

If anyone gets a 696 mounted in a 2005 panel, please post.
    Thank you.
