Default Location of Dynon Remote Compass

    Hello,

I'm in the process of installing a Dynon 100 in my CTsw, can anyone tell me where the typical location is for mounting the Remote Compass unit?

    Thanks

    Eric

i don't have a dynon but i do have an efis.

i can tell you that under the seat is a bad idea, anr headsets with battery power are good examples, the control falls under the seat and your heading changes.

we made a little fiberglass shelf well back in the fuselage, high up away from rudder cables and it seems a good choice.

    Default location of remote compass

The latest planes have the Dynon compass and OAT out in the left wing near the inspection plate. A plug for the wiring is at the wingroot for easy wing removable.

My D100 was aftermarket installed by GFA at Minden. It is behind the baggage compartment on the floor.

My temperature probe is there, too. Sticks out on the bottom, pilots side.
DO NOT PUT THE TEMP PROBE THERE!!!!!!!!!!! I do not get an accurate reading, even 8 feet behind the firewall, due to the exhaust. I am going to have to relocate my temp. probe, probably to the wing.

    Jim,

I have the same experience with my OAT probe.

Reads too high due to exhaust, right?

Mine reads correct in stationary on the ground.

    Cheers,

    Jos

Yes, the temp probe, while accurate in the hangar, reads way too high in the air. I have flown a 3 hour trip alongside another CT with an underwing probe which verified this.

I just attended a Dynon forum at Copperstate Fly-in... I learned that the location was not as important as the correct angle.. The compass must face forward at the same angle as the Dynon unit. Same tilt up and down as well as sideways. If you have a way to measure the Yaw it is best to get that correct as well.. Mine is on the inside of the firewall (not on a CT).. While some misalignment is addressed by software during the calibration routine it is best to have them as close as possible to begin with..Good luck with your DYNON... I like mine a bunch and watch the website for upgrades and options...

Thank you all for your advice, I'm finishing up my marathon installation weekend, and the remote compass install is one of the last things on my list. It looks like the easiest place is aft of the baggage compartment after I lay up some sort of bracket. I would like to put it in the wing but that will have to be a project for a later time when the wing has to come off, just not up to it right now..

Thanks again for all the help..

Where will you place the temperature probe?

Well, I currently don't have the temp probe option so I'll have to evaluate that when I upgrade. I wonder what the temp diff is inside the tail cone compared to OAT with/without the exhaust blow back?
