    Default Dynon report from Airventure

I visited the Dynon booth at Airventure and saw their upcoming product. It looked very nice, larger screens than the D100, highway in the sky, synthetic vision, terrain and a modular design that allows you to add as much or little redundancy as you want. Also, the AHRS module is separate from the displays, so can be mounted at the proper angle and location to avoid interference from other items in the plane. The Dynon rep said they would probably be offering a trade in/upgrade program for existing owners and that that unit would be "Dynon priced, with free software upgrades for any of the products you purchase." All in all, it gives you most everything the Garmin G1000 does, except the price.

    Default New Dynon

This came up on the system a couple of days ago:

It's interesting. Will be 'delivered' in stages as developed, etc. But worth watching.

    Default Dynon

    Hi Tony,

Pretty cool next generation stuff. Dynon is keeping up and not being left behind.

I agree with Ed here, that Dynon is late to the party. With the plan to release it and then continue to upgrade, I think they are going to fall well behind. It worked before, but there is a lot more competition now, and the future upgrades are for stuff that is already available. For example, they say that Engine Monitoring will be in a future release, but they don't say whether it will be compatible with the D-120 that many of us already have. The combination of the EFIS and EMS at a good price is what made Dynon the best solution. With a new hardware platform, my guess is it will not be backwards compatible.

Per the pics, it doesn't appear to have a GPS built in. I say that from the lack of buttons to set a waypoint, and the lack of a course line on the pic of the screens. I already have terrain and XM Weather with my 496. The only thing I don't already have is the Synthetic Vision, and I personally would rather look out the windscreen at the real thing, than look at a screen model of it.

Ed, do you have XM Weather into your BMA unit and your 496?

    roger,

it's fires season as you know, ( there is a new one burning on the south end of mammoth lakes ) last year i got enveloped in smoke and the synthetic vision underlying my attitude display kept me comfortable and aware. i like the syn vision combined with the big high detail terrain map. it is a very intuitive combonation for situational awareness whenever terrain is an issue. especially in poor visibility.

i have xm on my 496, it has more weather display features. i have my zeon pcas displayed on my bma, traffic displays far better on the big map and the symbology is more intuitive.
