    Default 2009 Fly-in

I got excited when this location was brought up to me. I think it will be tons of fun and a great area to have a fly-in. Hopefully we can get some classes on back country flying, etc., etc.

    Let's here your thoughts.

I'd like to see 2010 in the Page area. I was disappointed I was unable to attend this year because of weather but it looks like an incredible place to fly - maybe a hair earlier in the year would work better.

    Default Farther east

Many Ct owner's have expressed a desire for a Fly-In farther east and more central so more people can attend. We severely limit the amount of people that might be able to come without thinking of the other owners more central and east coast. I believe liked we talked about at the last Fly-In about moving it farther east and central. Something along the lines of Tom Guttman's operation in Tulsa, Ok. This is only an idea, but it is central and it could be somewhere else. We had 14-15 Ct's last year because of the pacific west coast location and the long distance for some flyers.
Roger H. it was a good Fly-In don't get me wrong, but moving it more east and central will attract more flyers and more CT support at the Fly-In itself. We could double or triple the number of people and CT planes if we move more central. Moving it one state won't help much and it is doing the other CT owners farther east a disservice. Moving it to a higher mountainous area or shorter runways may not be at everyones skill level. Plus it would be good to have good flight support services.

We have 200 other CT owners to think about.

    Default 2009 Fly-In

I prefer to head north, it's a lot nicer country.

Nothing I really want to see to the east or the south.

    Roger,

The East is too far for us to go and to far for them to come. We're working on an East Coast Fly-in with some fellow CT'ers that live in that "neck of the woods". Don't worry they won't be left out!!!

I'd like to see us head your way, or Page or....for 2010.

Also - Idaho is right up there with the number of registerd CT's. Around eight I beleive...probably more per capita then any where else I'll bet.

    Default Ct's in AZ

    Hi Roger H,

We have at least eight CT's in Az or more. I have 5 at Ryan airfield right now and know of at least three others in the state.

I was never thinking going way east just somewhere in the middle.

I do agree with Ed that Page has some of the most diverse sites and beauty anywhere in the country. Where in the country can you see the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Lake Powell, Antelope Canyon, a Dam Tour all in a central area. You could fly every day for weeks and not see it all. People come from all over the world and pay big money just to see one at a time on the ground. We got to see lots of it in just a few days, but only scratched the surface.

    Default 09 fly in

This is a big country, I flew over it well over 50 times in commercial jets at 500 knots with the view of all our farmland and prairies. But at 110 knots it would take a long time for all of us to get together in the middle or on the eastern side of this big country. It just makes sense to have two meetings, one on the western side and one on the eastern side, or maybe two on the east side, one in the south and one somewhere in the north or northeast. I probably would not fly to a meeting on the east side if I had to go over 8 hrs. Flying over the prairie doesn't appeal to me, just my feeling.

Page in 10 is a great idea with all it's attractions for us on the west side. We have house-boated on Lake Powell and love that area. For us in the north stopping in Moab is appealing because of the beautiful country there too. Picking a location and date now for 09 and 10 allows everyone to plan ahead too.

McCall has a 6100 ft X 75 ft paved runway and all the services, restaurants, motels, flying schools, all available within very easy walking distance, including a full service FBO, free bus service, a beautiful lake. Flying into and landing in the backcountry is not something you have to do unless you are qualified and comfortable. I have not yet landed in my CT2K but did in my C182. I am not comfortable yet. Flying over it is available without landing.

If a group of owners were to set up fly-ins on the east side or south side, it doesn't preclude us western owners from flying over to join you if we want to. Getting all 200 planes together at the same place is going to be very difficult, and most likely impossible. Two or three locations would work better due to our slow little birds, in my humble opinion.

    Default Just for fun...

    Roger

Very envious - I didn't make it on your Page trip. Pictures were beautiful. We waited every day for the weather to turn so we could come down but it never cooperated.

    Just some fun facts:

Az population is somewhere over six million with 5 CT's registered....

ID population is around a million and a half with 8 CT's registered....

Is it possible some of AZ's CT's are registered in another state?

Another thing we need to keep in mind is being able to fly in commercially - it has to be fairly convenient for those who opt for the big plane to get to the fly-in. We need to keep that in mind.
