Updated Schedule as of May 3rd.
Updated schedule, but we can change anything to what the group likes as this is only a guideline.
The planned but adjustable schedule looks like this, fly in on Thursday, July 9th., check in at the Hunt lodge, (ask for the CT flyin rate, 10% discount available up till 30 days before arrival, 208-634-4700) located a quarter mile from the airport.
Rich Stowell will give us a presentation on how to make a spin recovery and has approved aircraft available for those who want to learn how to. Rich's talk will be at 4:30pm for about 45 minutes then, Lori MacNichol, owner of the Mountain Flying School, here in McCall will give us a credited talk for about 50 minutes on Mtn flying with great slides at 5;30pm then we meet for dinner across the street at the Pancake House.
On Friday morning, breakfast at the Pancake House or the Hunt Lodge, pilot briefing, then fly to Nampa (S67) (90 miles), near Boise for a visit to the Warhawk museum, http://www.warhawkairmuseum.org/calendar.htm where they are having a special event with a lot of P51's. (Join the museum and for a fee get a ride in one of the fighters) Lunch there at the cafe, then fly to Ontario, OR, (KONO) (30 miles) to visit a private collection of jet fighters, (http://www.flickr.com/photos/bluedharma ... ollection/) then back to McCall flying down the Snake River into Hell's Canyon. Free afternoon to golf, site see, hike, bike, etc.
That night, Friday at about 6 pm, we will get together some pontoon boats and we will cruise the Payette Lake here and end up at a sandy beach at the north end and have a dinner and beverages, (what to be determined BBQ?? Need a vote). Swim or just talk about our planes. The lake is crystal clear and cool and we have some very beautiful home located here.
Saturday morning, fly to Smiley Cr. (U87)( about 80 miles) over toward Sun Valley for breakfast, (very good food) with great views to fly over (Sawtooth National Recreation Area), or options are to fly to Minam Lodge (7OR0) in Oregon, (Wallowa Mtns, and Hell's Canyon) or Halfway, Or., (Hell's Canyon), Johnson Cr. Id, (3U2, need a ride into town, 10 miles) or fly up north to visit a local church museum, fly to Cottonwood, Id, (S84) about 45 minutes north, visit the Abbey and museum, have lunch there and return along the Seven Devil Mountains on the rim of Hell's Canyon from the north end. http://abbey.solutiosoftware.com/monast ... tion-abbey or just fly around McCall and eat locally. Afternoon open to do the local tourist things. Then have dinner that evening at a local steak house, (the Mill), great prime rib.
We have a gas station only 1/8th of mile from the corner of the airport that has non ethanol gas too. The Hunt lodge is only about a quarter of mile from the corner of the airport. Easy walk. Free city bus around town. AOPA cars are available but may be limited. (reserve your car now and please car pool, McCallAviation.com, 208-634-7137 ext. 2 and Collins Auto at 208-634-8440)
We are a resort community.....so there are lot's of thing to do, golf (5 courses), jet skiing in the lake or boating, white water rafting, riding up the ski hill and riding mountain bikes down, fishing, hiking into local lakes, (200+- in a 25 mile radius of McCall) and of course flying around the area to see the sites, and if you feel qualified fly into some of the back country strips for meals, (see above). Then fly out on the 12th, if you can't stay longer.
We are at 5,000 feet elevation but our runway is 6,000 feet long. (KMYL, http://www.mccall.id.us/government/depa ... rport.html) Lots of parking.

One more option for breakfast.
When we all get together, we need to review the different options and then decide where you want to go based on your abilities and the airports. One of the local volunteers will guide you to the locations you decide to go to. Or we can all go to the same one in groups of 5 to 7.
Smiley Creek is the best one for the incredible views of the Sawtooth Mtns and the Stanley Basin, is fairly high at 7200 feet but is very long and has clear approaches. Always see antelope at the north end. We locals fly in here all the time. Great food at the cafe. Very short walk.
Next would be a new option of Johnson Cr. near Yellowpine. Johnson Creek, (3U2) is about 26 miles due east of McCall and has several cars at the airport or can call the town cafe for a shuttle to come get you. Cafe is run by NIKIE, she would
like to know about the # in your group & about what time . Silver dollar grill ph.# is 633-6207.
Johnson Cr. is a fairly easy strip to get into, is grass, is usually in very good shape and has a bit of traffic because it is close to McCall.
Minam Lodge is a great view flight over the Wallowa's in Oregon but the airport is fairly short and requires some mtn flying experience. Great food and you can watch the deer roam near the river in front of the lodge. I've been into this one in my old c-182 many times.
Last option would be to fly to Halfway, Or. but the walk into town is about 1.5 miles. Don't know if they have transportation.
Need to get your reservation at the Hunt Lodge (or the Super Eight across from the airport) very soon as the discount is only available until 30 days before the flyin.
