Default Update for the Summer flyin

We have Lori MacNichol, the owner of the Mountain Flying School in McCall scheduled to speak to us the first evening of the summer gathering, Thursday night the 9th. of July. Her comments about the presentation are, "Your group will get the most from my presentation which is 40-50 minutes long with great video of the strips and good tips for backcountry flying." in a conference room setting. I will reserve a meeting room at the Hunt Lodge for this and for discussion of the options for the weekend. It should be very interesting to hear her as her groups experience in flying in the mountains to the east of here is extensive. We cannot help but learn a lot.

Another option for a fly out for breakfast and or lunch is to the little town of Halfway on the Oregon side of the Snake River, due west from McCall. Airport identifier is OR70, but it is a bit of a walk to town. Video link for a landing is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9XM4TLeG ... re=related The flight is over the Snake River and just to the north is the famous Hell's Canyon area, deepest gorge in the USA. (deeper than the Grand Canyon, AND no fly over restrictions)

Before the summer rush and all the rooms are gone, don't forget to make your reservations for the flyin at the Hunt Lodge, 208-634-4700 and ask for the CT-Flyin rate.

AND if anyone has a door prize to offer, please let me know. Thanks. Spud

Default Got another place for the breakfast, Minam Lodge.

Got another mountain lodge to fly to for breakfast, just found out it is open to the public. The Minam Lodge is over in Oregon, 71 miles, at a heading of 279 degrees. The airport identifier is 7OR0. Getting there we will fly over the Snake River and some very pretty Mountains called the Wallowas. A video showing a landing there is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9xBv9emo ... re=related Reds Horse Ranch is next door and just over the river. Video showing a landing at Red's coming in over the Minam strip, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HNmAc3dl ... re=related Breakfast is $10 and flyins are welcome. I've flown in here in my old C-182 about 5 times years ago. It was not too hard to get into at 3600' elev. and 2000' long, but the strip might be a little rough, typical of these type strips. Have to make a clearing pass to get the horses off the strip. I will go over and check it out before we get together. Got some stories to tell about this place. We now have more choices than we have mornings for breakfasts. Decisions, decisions. Spud.

    Default AOPA article

April issue of AOPA magazine has another article about the flying out of McCall and Lori MacNichol's school.

Please note the special quotes by astronaut Bill Anders about the country here.

I grew up here and just have to agree with his comments about the beautiful country.

Be sure and watch the video.
